The first episode of season 2 of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel is now available on Max
After almost two years of waiting, the long-awaited first episode of season 2 of Max is now available on Max. The House of the Dragon titled ‘Son for son’ (2×01) where Alicent (Olivia Cooke) worries about Aegon’s (Tom Glynn-Carney) Small Council and Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) faces a momentous decision.
But it has arrived with an important change in its header. All Game of Thrones fans still remember today what it was like to start an episode humming the opening song, something that its spin-off had to face. The House of the Dragon.
The first season began with a version of the Targaryen family tree as blood flows through gears representing the different characters. This changes over time as different Targaryens are born or die, hinting at some characters who haven’t appeared yet, like Daeron and Maelor.
But season 2 continues to literally follow the Targaryen bloodlines, but this time opting to represent the history of the family in images of a tapestry. But why this sudden change? The co-creator and showrunner of The House of the DragonRyan Condal, has explained the reason why they decided to change the title in this new installment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
The amazing opening sequence of the original series put us in this place where, not that we were trying to top it, but we were trying to continue the tradition of an evolving, changing credits sequence. In the original series, the credits change as the series changes geography, showing you more and more of Westeros. We wanted to continue that with our masthead, but we realized that the lineage and ancestry story we were telling that season (20 years in the first) had come to an end because Targaryen ancestry is now established. We didn’t have much of a place to go.
Condal continues: “So we decided to go for a radical change. Now that the page has turned and we are at war, this is a living story and we want to represent that story in a visual way and give fans new things to immerse themselves in.”
