After setting sail with a first season that convinced both die-hard fans and newcomers, ‘One Piece’ is already shaping its next installment on Netflix. The adaptation of the manganime by Eiichiro Oda, which is close to starting the filming of its next episodes, has taken a step forward by announcing four signings that will give Luffy and company a lot of war. Furthermore, these additions represent the definitive emergence of Baroque Works, one of the common threads of the celebrated Alabasta saga.

Although in the first delivery Baroque Works was already briefly mentioned in a Zoro sequence, it will be in the second when this criminal organization takes center stage. This is demonstrated by this round of signings that has confirmed David Dastmalchian (‘Oppenheimer’) as Mr. 3Camrus Johnson (‘Batwoman’) as Mr. 5Jazzara Jaslyn (‘Warrior’) as Miss Valentine and Daniel Lasker (‘Raised by Wolves’) as Mr. 9. Most of these characters break into the original material in the Whiskey Peak arc, one of the first in that Alabasta saga that represents the arrival of the Straw Hats to the Grand Line, the sea where they will truly be tested his skills after his time at East Blue.

Even so, their presence is not limited to a single island, since the members of Baroque Works, a company full of powerful agents arranged in a hierarchical manner, have an impact on several of the arcs until culminating, precisely, on the island of Alabasta. Therefore, It is to be expected that the entire second season will focus on that broad saga.during which the incorporation of some other new crew member of Luffy, as was already confirmed when the renewal was announced in September 2023.

Three other signings

Shortly after revealing those four names, Netflix has announced three more additions to the cast of the second season of ‘One Piece’: Clive Russell (‘Game of Thrones’) will play crocusWerner Coetser (‘Diepe Waters’) will give life to Dorry and Brendan Murray (‘Raised by Wolves’) will step into the shoes of Brogy. The first of those characters, Crocus, appears in the Reverse Mountain arch, the one before Whiskey Peak, and meets the Straw Hats on their jump to the Grand Line. For its part, Brogy and Dorry are two giants facing each other for life in the Little Garden arcthe one after Reverse Mountain and Whiskey Peak.

Endless adventure?

The first season of ‘One Piece’ covered almost a hundred chapters of the manga by adapting the first saga almost in its entirety, in the absence of the Loguetown arch. For its part, if the second runs through the entire Alabasta plot, it will reach chapter 217 of the manga. So, once again certain events will have to be condensed to fit the pieces together, although That won’t mean showrunners Matt Owens and Joe Tracz run out of materialsince currently Oda’s work, immersed in its final saga, is in its 1118th chapter.
