Colombia and Brazil strengthen ties with signing of agreements

The signing of the collaboration agreements took place at the Casa de Nariño in this capital, where the president of the country, Gustavo Petro, received his counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who began a two-day official visit during this day.

The minister in charge of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo, and his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, signed three of the instruments.

The first two were basic cooperation agreements, one on cartographic matters; and the second with the objective of fighting hunger, through the public purchase of food.

The foreign ministers also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the prevention, investigation, prosecution of the crime of human trafficking, assistance and protection of its victims and transfer of knowledge.

Another document was signed between the Ministry of Communications of Brazil and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) of Colombia.

This establishes the exchange of policies, regulations and technical standards in information and communications technologies, and promotes relations between research institutes and companies from both countries.

Regarding the promotion of tourism, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the exchange of good practices in terms of democratization of the exercise and knowledge of that industry.

Another of the agreements dealt with the development of family farming, which seeks to establish parameters of inter-ministerial technical cooperation in areas of agricultural production that promote the development of family farming, in an equitable, inclusive and sustainable manner, as reported.

Likewise, the Vice President and Minister of Equality and Equity, Francia Márquez, and the Minister of Human Rights of Brazil, Silvio Almeida, signed an agreement for the defense of Lgbtiq+ people, migrants, elderly people, people with disabilities and people living on the street.

The objective of the latter is to establish a bilateral dialogue mechanism in areas of common interest, through technical and political cooperation projects for the exchange of good practices in the promotion and defense of the rights of these groups.

Presidents Lula and Petro also discussed trade, human rights, and environmental and climate action issues, according to information provided to the press.
