The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah launched this Saturday (04/27/2024) a “complex air operation” with guided missiles and assault drones against military positions in northern Israel, in response to the death of two of its fighters and a civilian in Israeli attacks against southern Lebanon.
Iran’s allied formation reported in a statement that it launched “a complex aerial operation with assault drones and guided missiles” against a headquarters in Manara, in northern Israel, and “against positions of the 51st Battalion, belonging to the Brigade Golani”, which suffered “direct impacts”.
Hezbollah indicated that this action was “in response to enemy attacks against civilian towns and homes, especially in the municipalities of Kfar Kila and Kfar Shuba,” in southern Lebanon. This same day, the group had reported the death of two of its fighters, while the Lebanese National News Agency (ANN) reported the death of a civilian in an Israeli attack against the town of Kfar Shuba.
Crossfire
The Israeli Army, meanwhile, maintained that its “Iron Dome” defense system had successfully intercepted “a suspicious aerial object that crossed from Lebanon towards Manara.” Israeli forces responded by bombing the sites from which the projectiles were launched. Earlier, Israeli warplanes had attacked “a Hezbollah military position in the Qouzah area.”
Since last October, Hezbollah and the Jewish State have been engaged in intense crossfire within the framework of the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip, clashes in which other Lebanese groups with less military capacity also participate to a lesser extent. Hezbollah has also stepped up its attacks on Israeli military targets since tensions between Israel and Iran increased.
