The AU follows with deep concern reports of the alarming deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation in the Sudanese region of North Darfur, said a statement circulated to the press in this capital.

There is a population of African ethnicity in Northern Darfur; The clashes between the troops of the Sovereign Transitional Council (CST), of General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, and the militiamen of General Mohamed Hamdan, cost the lives of 43 civilians, including women and children, according to a Prensa Latina report released at dawn from today.

The fighting, in which artillery and jet fighters participate, is centered on the city of Al Fasher, controlled by the CST, according to details from the theater of operations.

The AU statement underlines that the concentration of forces and weapons by both sides near El Fasher threatens the lives, property and livelihoods of millions of people in North Darfur and complicates an “already difficult” negotiating process. ”.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, the spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Commissioner revealed that both the CST artillery and that of the Rapid Support Forces militia are punishing the city of Al Fasher, where the situation is worsening by the minute.

He added that the action of the RSF has ethnic overtones due to its attacks on towns populated by African people, including Durma, Umoshosh, Sarafaya and Ozbani, burned to the ground by the RFS.

Since its outbreak in April of last year, the conflict has cost the lives of more than 14,000 people, a higher number of injuries, in addition to the destruction of infrastructure, homes and industries, and the displacement of more than eight million people.
