The presidential candidate of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) -the main opposition coalition in Venezuela-, Edmundo González Urrutia, He said this Sunday that, if he wins the elections on July 28, he is willing to “recompose” diplomatic relations with the United States, broken since 2019.
“We have (…) interrupted diplomatic relations, where there are no heads of mission in the capitals, where there is no political dialogue, where all the cooperation plans were suspended, it is a reality with which we aspire to recompose starting July 28,” he said in an interview with the private channel Venevisión.
Regarding Chavismo’s accusation of being “the candidate of imperialism,” González Urrutia said: “I am not inspired by anything that would cause me to respond to that statement.”
In the opinion of the internationalist, Venezuela needs to recover the institutionality of its foreign policy, which is currently “based on alliances that are foreign” to the “peaceful and democratic tradition” of the Caribbean country, although he did not mention what those links are.
“We cannot continue with a foreign policy based on (…) alliances that, far from contributing to the development of the country, what have contributed is to marginalize us from the concert of democratic nations in the world,” he expressed.
The former ambassador also criticized that Venezuela and Argentina today have “very tense” relations, which is due, he stated, to the fact that “the plurality of thoughts is not respected.”
González Urrutia is one of the 10 candidates – all men– to the upcoming elections, among them also the dictator, Nicolas Madurowho seeks to be re-elected for the second time.

Cabello assured that the PSUV will follow “a series of mobilizations throughout Venezuela” to demand that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, “lift the blockade against Venezuela” and to prepare a “great victory” for the presidential elections.
In addition, He called on the organization to continue forming the UPAZ (Popular Units for Peace) and thus guarantee that each community can “defend the territory.”
“I have no doubt (that) the people of Venezuela are going to vote on (July) 28 for the peace proposal, against the sanctions, the blockade,” Cabello said.
