Depending on the culture and religion, it implied the mutual agreement of a union based on monogamy and procreation of children, among other aspects.
In this sense, marriage was legally stipulated as the union between a man and a woman, a condition that changed after the struggle of the LGBTTIQ+ movement community. In countries like Argentina, the union between two people of the same sex is legal in marriage.
Why in April
The idea of making World Marriage Day coincide with the fourth Sunday in April responds to the intention of unite the date with the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere since the season is linked to growth and fertility.
The date originated in 1981 in Louisiana, United States. Then the date was approved by the National Board of World Marriage Meeting of the United States and, in 1983, the event was renamed World Marriage Day, which spread to other countries.
