The National Electoral Institute (INE) generated concern among Mexicans residing abroad after reporting thatThousands of registrations to vote from abroad will not proceed due to various irregularities. Faced with this situation, many are wondering what actions to take to ensure their participation in the elections on June 2.

The review process covered a total of 42,436 applications, of which the vast majority were found to be inadmissible. Among the most common irregularities are illegible signatures, photocopies instead of handwritten signatures or discrepancies with the signature on the Voter Credential. This situation has left thousands of Mexicans abroad with doubts about their electoral participation.

According to Counselor Arturo Castillo, the INE is facilitating a clarification process for those whose registrations did not proceed. Until May 5, Affected citizens can send an email to [email protected] to request the review and correction of your registration situation.

Despite the irregularities detected, the Counselor emphasized that those whose registrations were found to be inadmissible will still be able to exercise their right to vote. The inadmissibility of registration does not imply a definitive exclusion, since there are alternatives to participate in the elections from abroad.

Actions to guarantee the right to vote for Mexicans residing in the United States

At a meeting of the General Council of the INE, Counselor Claudia Zavala Pérez highlighted the importance of guarantee the certainty of the Register and the Nominal List of Voters. He stated that the INE is committed to addressing each request individually to ensure that the registered people are those who authentically decided to vote from abroad.

Despite the inadmissibility, the right to vote from abroad is guaranteed for everyone.

On the other hand, the National Surveillance Commission proposed the reinstatement of certain records whose inconsistencies may be correctable with information available in the INE database. This proposal seeks to guarantee the right to vote of Mexicans residing abroad and will be presented to the relevant commissions of the INE for their consideration.

For those whose records definitely do not apply to voting from abroad, the possibility of vote in national territory or in consular offices. This measure seeks to maximize the democratic exercise of Mexicans residing abroad, privileging their right to vote in any available modality.
