During the twenty-sixth ASEAN-India Senior Officials Meeting (Aisom), representatives of the South Asian country and the regional economic organization reviewed in depth those areas that represent their three pillars of commitment as reflected in the 2021-2025 Action Plan, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting, which included the participation of all ASEAN member states, Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn and a representation of Timor Leste, as an observer country, the implementation of the 12 points proposed by the prime ministers to strengthen bilateral ties at the twentieth Summit between the association and India that took place in 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Likewise, attendees also highlighted the joint activities proposed to commemorate the decade of East India Law Policy.

Likewise, they exchanged views on regional and global issues and discussed preparations for the ASEAN-India Summit to be held later this year in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

It was also known that the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyan Jaishankar, received senior officials from the Asean secretariat, its member states and Timor Leste, with whom he discussed the mutual interests of his government and the organization.

The Indian Foreign Minister underlined that Asean is a crucial pillar of India’s foreign policy policy and his government’s vision for the Indo-Pacific in general.

He further encouraged the delegation to focus on issues of critical importance and specific outcomes, including the early completion of the review of the Asean-India Agreement on Trade in Goods (Aitiga) and regional issues of mutual interest.

Singapore is India’s national coordinator for dialogue relations between New Delhi and ASEAN.
