The Supreme Court of Justice opened a formal investigation against the representative of the Chamber of Amazonas, Yénica Acosta Infante (Democratic Center). She accuses her of allegedly committing the crime of embezzlement by appropriation.
For having UTL abroad
As La Silla recounted, between 2021 and 2022, Representative Acosta linked and maintained in her Legislative Work Unit, UTL, an advisor named Otilia Rodríguez, who received several salaries while in Canada. By a 2020 law, UTL advisors can work in Congress or in the departments of congressmen if necessary, but not outside the country. And much less collect their salaries if they were not working abroad.
Representative Acosta says that the official did work, even if it was from abroad. But she did not know about the official’s trips. However, the Court questions that.
“Despite the formal connection of Rodríguez Lozano to the UTL of representative Acosta lnfante for approximately ten months, to date the Chamber has not found evidence that the former advisor actually provided her services as assistant 11 of the parliamentarian in the terms that “I demanded the position,” he says to the car.

The irregular management of the UTL has ended in the loss of investiture of congressmen in the Council of State. For example, in 2017, the then senator Carlos Enrique Soto was decreed to lose his investiture and removed from office for a very similar issue.
