The events occurred due to strong winds recorded during the political event held by the candidate for the presidency of Mexico, Jorge Álvarez, of the Citizen Movement party, in the city of San Pedro Garza, near Monterrey.

At least nine dead and 50 injured are reported after the collapse of the stage on Wednesday night during the rally in which Álvarez Máynez and other candidates from his political movement participated.

An initial balance had reported four deaths and 15 injuries.a figure that increased as the hours passed.

The accident occurred in the town of San Pedro Garza García, part of the metropolitan area of ​​Monterrey, during the closing of the campaign of Lorenia Canavati, candidate for mayor of this city. Candidates for the Senate and deputies also participated there.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez confirmed that he was fine and in communication with the state authorities to follow up on what happened. “The only important thing right now is to care for the victims,” he wrote on his the victims.

Álvarez Máynez, who is third in voting intentions for the presidential elections to be held on June 2, managed to get to safety with his companions after running quickly.

The Citizen Movement deputy, Javier González Alcántara, also spoke out, informing the Televisa network that the rescuers attended to the disaster and evacuated the injured who were under the roof of the platform.

“It was now possible to remove all the people who were under the stage and take the injured to the hospitals,” he indicated.

The governor of the state of Nuevo León, Samuel García, spoke on his social networks and shared the extent of the damage, “I have just visited Clinic 7 and I regret to report that so far the number of people killed by the accident amounts to eight adults and one minor.”

The other candidates for the presidency of Mexico expressed their condolences for the incident and regretted what happened during the campaign event.

Civil Protection has already completed the rescue work in the accident area, meanwhile the injured continue to be treated in multiple hospitals in Nuevo León.
