The director general of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jacob Blitstein, reprimanded the ambassadors of Spain, Ireland and Norway this Thursday (05/23/2024), the day after these countries announced their decision to recognize the Palestinian State, which they will formalize on May 28.

“The twisted decision of their governments is a reward for Hamas and Hamas congratulates them for it,” Blitstein said at the meeting held at the headquarters of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, the institution reported in a statement.

“It will have more serious consequences for our relations with your countries,” he warned the Spanish Ana Salomón, the Irish Sonya McGuiness and the Norwegian Per Egil Selvaag.

The three European ambassadors were shown a video made public yesterday that shows how Hamas militants, a group classified as terrorist by the European Union (EU), entered a military observation base in Nahal Oz, near the Gaza Strip. and they hold and take away several soldiers.

“The recognition of their governments does not promote peace and gives a boost to Hamas and makes it even more difficult to promote an agreement for the release of hostages,” the Israeli diplomat insisted.

Blitstein stressed that Israel has no intention of ending the war in Gaza until it achieves its objectives: “ending Hamas, the return of all those kidnapped and the return of security for all its citizens.”

Israel summoned the three ambassadors yesterday for a “reprimand conversation”, in addition to calling its envoys to Madrid, Dublin and Oslo for consultations, after these Executives announced almost simultaneously yesterday their intention to recognize the Palestinian State.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz considered the decision a “reward to the Hamas terrorists”, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that “evil cannot be given a State.”
