The leaders of 17 countries, including Spain, Colombia, Argentina, France and the United Kingdom, This Thursday, in a joint statement, they supported the initiative of US President Joe Biden for Gaza and urged the Palestinian group Hamas and Israel to accept it.

The British Government released the statement, in which the signatories assure that an agreement for the ceasefire and the release of the hostages will open “opportunities for a more resilient lasting peace and a two-state solution.”

“As leaders of countries deeply concerned about the hostages held by Hamas in Loop
, “including many of our own citizens, we fully support the movement toward a ceasefire agreement and hostage release on the table and as outlined by President Biden on May 31,” the statement said.

In the opinion of these 17 leaders, including Biden
“there is no time to waste,” so they urge Hamas to accept an agreement “with which Israel is ready to proceed” and begin releasing the hostages.

For the signatories, the initiative, in addition to establishing an immediate ceasefire and the rehabilitation of Gaza would offer security guarantees for Israelis and Palestinians.

“At this decisive moment, we call on the leaders of Israel as well as those of Hamas to make the final commitments necessary to close the deal and provide assistance to the families of our hostages, as well as those on both sides of this terrible conflict, including civilians,” they add.

The leaders of the countries, which also include Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia and Thailand consider that “it is time for the war to end, and this agreement is the necessary starting point.”
