To date, this Indochinese nation has exported 114,424 tons of this product, for a year-on-year increase of 13.2 percentage points.

Of the total sales abroad, the largest market share (26.6 percent) corresponded to the United States, whose imports increased by 44.4 percentage points, while Italy (179 percent), Germany (103.2) and Russia (49.7) also recorded growth in their purchases.

The increase in income from the export of this Vietnamese condiment responded to the favorable prices in the international market, where black pepper was priced at $4,197 per ton and white pepper at $5,804 per ton.

According to estimates from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, pepper production this year will decrease by around 10 percent compared to 2023 and would reach around 170 thousand tons, the lowest in the last five years.

Likewise, the supply of other large producers such as Brazil, Indonesia and India, and smaller ones such as Malaysia and Sri Lanka, also shows a downward trend.

At an International Conference of the Vietnam pepper and spice industry, held last March, experts considered that the small and fragmented development of these productions has limited the ability to access and apply scientific-technological advances to them.
