A missing woman was found eaten by a giant python in Indonesia, after villagers extracted her body from inside the snake.

Farida, a 45-year-old mother of four, had disappeared on June 6 while walking through the forest to sell food at a local market near her home in Kalempang village. The python attacked her, biting her leg and wrapping itself around her body to suffocate her before swallowing her, starting with her head. They think it would have taken her two hours.

Concerned about her absence, Noni, Farida’s 55-year-old husband, alerted neighbors, who began a search. The next day, they found a 5-meter python with a large lump in its stomach. In a video of the scene you can see the huge snake with its tongue sticking out of its mouth.

The body was removed and taken for a religious burial in Pitu Riawa district, South Sulawesi province.

Suspecting the worst, the villagers cut the python’s skin with a machete, finding Farida inside. The body was removed and taken for a religious burial in Pitu Riawa district, South Sulawesi province.

Noni expressed her regret: “I will always regret letting my wife go out alone. If he had been with her, the snake would not have dared to attack her. “I am sorry for the suffering she endured and I feel sorry for our family.”.

Kalempang village chief Suardi Rosi said Noni found the snake with a swollen stomach during the search. He immediately suspected that the python had eaten his wife. The villagers collaborated to capture the python and remove Farida’s body, which was intact, even in the clothes she was wearing when she was attacked, as fully digesting a meal of that size would have taken the snake weeks.

What is the reticulated python like?

Reticulated pythons, the longest species in the world, live in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Its size can exceed 6.25 meters and attacks on humans have occasionally been recorded. The longest documented python measured 10 meters. Although they usually live in jungles and forests, in some areas they have been found in urban areas.

These types of incidents are extremely rare, but several people have died in Indonesia in recent years after being swallowed by pythons.
