Two years ago, 196 countries met in Montreal, Canada, to close a historic agreement that would help guide global actions in favor of nature: the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, a document containing 23 goals and four objectives that They seek, in general terms, to stop and reverse the loss of biodiversity by 2030. In October, the countries will meet again, this time in Cali, to review the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), the instruments that each one has been developing to comply with the Framework. Evaluating these actions will be important to know whether or not the plans are sufficient to stop and reverse the loss of biodiversity, a crisis that is reflected, among other things, in the million species – mostly plants and animals – that exist in Danger of extinction. The latter, according to the IPBES Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services report.
