President of Argentina, Javier Milei.

One of the measures adopted by Javier Milei that have caused the most stir since he began his mandate in Argentina is the recent dissolution of the Ministry of Women and Gender Diversitywhich was contemplated in his policy of reducing the size of the State.

In conversation with the first edition of Radioanalysisthe international analyst Pablo Lacoste referred to this policy as “a lack of awareness” given the statistics of femicides recorded in Argentina last year. “It’s really a delay. It is impressive that politicians themselves are generating this feeling of impunity for abuse of women.”, expressed the academic from the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Santiago.

With respect to stagnation of women’s rights in Argentina, Lacoste referred to this in a historical vision that has marked the continent. “Moving from the colonial era to a situation of greater egalitarian recognition was a very slow cultural process, where the most conservative sectors always opposed it,” he said.

After that, He critically pointed out the figure of Mileiwhom he described as “an ignorant”. “He doesn’t know about political science, he doesn’t know about the issue of women, he doesn’t know about international relations and he doesn’t know about sociology,” she asserted.

Why does Milei arrive? Not because of what he thinks about the issue of women, but because the economy exploded with the hyperinflation and hypercorruption of the Kirchnerists. So all the enormous ignorance that he has in all those areas was excused, people held their noses and voted for Milei to straighten out the macroeconomy,” added the international analyst.

Furthermore, he noted that “I don’t think Argentine society can tolerate all this.”, in relation to policies such as the elimination of the Ministry of Women. “For now, Milei will be put up with until he resolves this disaster in the economy, and after that it will close and reasonable people will come to rebuild the State and that includes rebuilding the Ministry of Women,” Lacoste stated.

However, the analyst mentioned that the recovery of this type of institutions in Argentina may be subject to economic performance between now and next year. “Inflation is going down. From 25% monthly we are now at 5% and falling, which is also nonsense but at least a certain balance is being achieved. There are economists who say that if this is achieved by the end of the year, economic growth can begin to resume next year,” he explained.

“And if the economy begins to grow, labor begins to be absorbed, poverty begins to decrease, Then normal politicians will come to rebuild the Stateto put its essential functions back to work,” he clarified.
