One of the F-16s of the US Air Force Viper Demo Team took to the skies of Peru during the Chiclayo 2024 Air Festival

On June 15, taking place at the Pedro Ruiz Gallo Air Base, the Chiclayo 2024 Air Festival began in Peru, which is held in commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of the immolation of Captain FAP José Abelardo Quiñones. One of the highlights of the festival was the aerial display performed by United States Air Force F-16 fighters belonging to the Viper Demo Team, wearing their new paint scheme commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of the YF-16, which took place in 1974.

Last Saturday, June 15, the Chiclayo 2024 Air Festival began. The opening of the air show was attended by the Minister of Defense of Peru, Walter Astudillo, accompanied by the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces. of Peru, and the regional governor of Lambayeque, the mayor of Chiclayo, among other authorities.

Among the high points of the days were various passages of aircraft in service with the Peruvian Air Force, highlighting the Mirage 2000 fighter-bombers and Hercules KC-130H transport aircraft, which were recently acquired from Spain.

Aerobatic flights were also carried out by Moravan Zlín Z-242 aircraft belonging to the Bicolor Squadron. There has also been participation in static displays of Colombian Air Force aircraft, with the presence of an Airbus C295 (registration FAC 1285) being appreciated.

In turn, one of the most anticipated demonstrations by the public was that of an F-16 fighter belonging to the Viper Demo Team of the United States Air Force (USAF). One of the most notable features of this aircraft is its paint scheme commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the YF-16.. This aircraft had been recently presented last May.

The demo team was born in 2015 after the merger between the Viper East and West teams. For the purpose of the 50th anniversary, the team will represent the Air Combat Command and the Air Force in 25 shows in four different countries.
