Javier Milei He again attacked the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez. During his visit to Madrid, this time he alluded not only to the wife of the socialist leader, Begoña Gómezbut also to the brother, David Sánchez, who 10 days ago was involved in a court case for alleged corruption.

In his speech at the headquarters of the Community of Madrid, the Argentine president alluded to the corruption that affects societies and mentioned “the porous hands of politicians, perhaps it is not that of the politician directly, perhaps it is that of a brother, that of a partner or whatever…He who wants to understand, let him understand.”

David Sánchez-Pérez Castellón, 50, is the brother of the president of the Spanish government. He uses the stage name David Azagra and currently serves as head of the Performing Arts Office of the Badajoz Provincial Council (region of the western peninsula, on the border with Portugal).

His name became involved in controversy following the opening of a case in the Investigative Court Number 3 of the city of Badajoz for the alleged crimes of embezzlement, prevarication and influence peddling.

The complaint was filed by the union Clean hands, linked to the extreme right. It is the same organization that denounced Begoña Gómez.

Before taking up his current position, Sánchez’s brother was appointed coordinator of Activities of the Conservatories of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, with a salary of 45,000 euros per year. His appointment generated controversy at the time because he was the president’s brother. Clean Hands denounces that among the 11 candidates who ran for office in a public call in 2017, David Sánchez was chosen for presenting “a more consistent accredited profile” with the requirements of the call, for meeting the merits and because his answers to the questions asked “make him the most suitable candidate for the position.”

The complainants maintain that his role was to be director of the Symphony Orchestra, the Provincial Chamber Orchestra Symphonic Band, but that he was only in charge of the musicians on one occasion, in January 2019. They accuse him of collecting the salary “without go to your workplace”, despite the fact that the provision of services under a teleworking regime is not authorized. Furthermore, they point out that he lives in elvasin Portugal (20 kilometers from Badajoz), which makes the investigation more difficult.

The union insists in its complaint that there have been other directors at the head of the orchestra in recent years “when it is a position exclusively for the person designated for that position.” And he adds: “Let us remember that in addition to directing the conservatory orchestra, he had many other responsibilities and essential functions, as we have previously shown in the call. Office work such as coordinating the activities of the Provincial Council’s conservatories; coordination of the cycles in which the instrumental groups participate; coordination of groups of teachers and management teams to organize rehearsals, choose repertoire, etc.

His relationship with music

David Sánchez has been passionate about music since he was young. He studied in the United States and graduated in Economics and Business Sciences at Icade, an institute of the University of Comillas (Spain).

In his book “Tierra firma”, President Sánchez says that his brother settled in Russia after finishing his studies because he wanted to “bet everything on music”. He lived in St. Petersburg, where he “didn’t know anyone or speak the language” and spent eight years there learning.

In 2017 he returned to Spain, year in which he was appointed coordinator of the Conservatories of the Provincial Council of Badajoz. That region was governed by socialism, a party that his brother was already leading at the national level (although in Spain the conservative Mariano Rajoy still governed).
