Vietnam and Singapore seek synergies in the fishing sector

Vietnam has capabilities in the cultivation, processing and export of shrimp and tra fish (pangasius), while Singapore has a growing demand for high-quality products in this area, said the deputy secretary general of the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers of Vietnam (Vasep), To Thi Tuong Lan.

On the other hand, he added, although the Indochinese nation has strengths in production and processing, Singapore companies have very good skills in international trade.

Hence, even though it is a small consumer market, Singapore can be an important gateway for Vietnamese products to reach many other countries in the region and the world, Tuong Lan appreciated.

At a meeting organized by Vasep, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, the head of the latter, Cao Xuan Thang, stated that Vietnamese aquatic products are becoming more visible in that nation. and have received good feedback from consumers.

Once Vietnamese fishing companies can connect with partners in Singapore, products from the Indochinese nation will have great opportunities to reach other markets, he predicted.

Vietnam is today, along with China and Norway, in the group of the three largest exporters of aquatic products worldwide, with annual exports of around 10 billion dollars.

Vietnamese fish production reaches about 170 markets, including the largest and most demanding ones such as the European Union, the United States, Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom.
