With music, flags, slogans and poetry, they arrived at the Bolivian embassy in Quito to express their condemnation of a military man’s attempt to reverse the constitutional order and delivered their statements to the head of the diplomatic headquarters, Segundina Flores.

The young Jefferson Taraguay, from the Central University of Ecuador and from the Action for Palestine movement, highlighted how the people of Bolivia managed to defend their democracy and sovereignty through the consolidation of popular power.

The Ecuadorian Committee of Solidarity and Friendship with Bolivia and the Coordinator for Peace, Sovereignty, Integration and Non-Interference (CPAZ) expressed their support for the people and government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

We strongly reject any form of interference and destabilization that threatens democracy and the sovereignty of the people of our Latin America, stated Yumac Ortiz, on behalf of CPAZ.

The representative of the Communist Party of Ecuador (PCE) William Trujillo also read a statement from that political organization that repudiates the coup attempt, an action that they consider promoted by the bourgeois elites, the Pentagon and the military leadership in order to impose a dictatorial model on favor of the United States.

Ambassador Flores thanked the people for their support for her government and highlighted the attitude of both the Bolivian president, Luis Arce, and the people, who mobilized and prevented a new coup against democracy in their country.

Last Wednesday, former Army Commander Juan José Zúñiga and Navy Commander Juan Arnez, with hundreds of troops and tanks, occupied the epicenter of political power in Bolivia, Plaza Murillo, for about three hours.

The action was neutralized after Arce swore in the new members of the military high command.
