Located about 1,400 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands, the system is becoming better defined and associated showers and storms are increasing in organization. If these

trends continue, a tropical depression is likely to form later today, according to the latest CNH report.

This system is also expected to move westward at 15 to 20 mph and approach the Windward Islands by late this weekend, however, hurricane or tropical storm watches could be required for portions of that region tonight or early Saturday.

In the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, an area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave produces widespread shower and thunderstorm activity.

According to the report, the development of this disturbance is not expected this Friday as it moves west-northwest at between 10 and 15 miles per hour.

The CNH highlights that the disturbance will move westward over the Yucatan Peninsula

and will emerge over the Bay of Campeche late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, at which time some development will be possible.

The current Atlantic and Caribbean hurricane season, which started on June 1 and runs until November 30, is classified by meteorologists as very active.

To date, only one event has reached the category of tropical storm and had a short-lived development in the western Caribbean Sea.
