United Nations, – The United Nations (UN) will today launch its report on the status of the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which confirms progress well below expectations for the 2030 Agenda.

The report, which will be presented by the organization’s secretary general, António Guterres, recognizes progress in areas such as reducing global infant mortality, preventing HIV infection and access to energy and mobile broadband.

However, it critically reviews aspects that demand urgent action such as climate change, threats to peace and security, and the increasingly notable inequalities between countries.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2024 is the result of the collaboration of the United Nations with more than 50 international and regional organizations.

This initiative aims to serve as a fundamental resource by providing the most recent data and evidence to develop recommendations and solutions to advance towards the 17 goals launched in 2015.

That year, world leaders adopted a set of global goals ranging from the end of poverty and hunger, gender equality, or access to equitable health systems, clean water and sanitation, or decent work.

The SDGs aim to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.

More than halfway through the deadline, the organization warns of a delay in strategic goals such as the elimination of hunger and poverty, freedom of expression, the creation of sustainable cities and the protection of biodiversity on land and in water.

Aspects such as low financing, increased geopolitical tensions and the results of the recent Covid-19 pandemic negatively impact most of the Goals.
