Only with the unity of the left and progressive forces of the region can we confront the imperial pretensions of reimposing the Monroe Doctrine.

This was stated by the head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Emilio Lozada García, speaking at the opening session of the XXVII Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum, which is taking place in Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras.

In his remarks, he recalled Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, when at the closing of the IV Meeting of the Forum in Havana, 31 years ago, he insisted that the duty of the left is to create awareness of the need for integration and unity in Latin America, since no region in the world had so many things in common.

Lozada García said that it is necessary to put aside personal ambitions and concentrate all efforts on meeting the needs of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, to whom the revolutionary and progressive left owes its support. He emphasized preventing progressive and leftist governments from being criticized or trampled on from supposedly revolutionary positions, and called for closing ranks against the oligarchic right.

For their part, José Manuel Zelaya, national coordinator of the LIBRE Freedom and Refoundation Party of Honduras, and Jorge Arreaza, executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, condemned, in their speeches, the genocidal blockade of the United States against Cuba.

During the same day, the Head of the PCC delegation also participated as a speaker in the panel Regional integration and the challenges of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples in CELAC, in which he revalidated the statement of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who on the tenth anniversary of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace expressed that, in order to advance regional integration, it is essential to preserve peace and debate differences in a civilized and respectful manner.

Lozada García also proposed strengthening ties with regional organizations such as the Puebla Group and the Progressive International, defenders of the causes of the regional and international left.

The Forum’s program commemorates the 15th anniversary of the coup d’état against Honduran President José Manuel Zelaya.

Honduras, in its capacity as pro tempore president of Celac in 2024, also called for the celebration of the II Summit of Celac Social, which unites a significant number of representatives of social organizations.

The Cuban Communist Party delegation to the event also includes members of the Union of Young Communists, the Federation of Cuban Women and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
