After 27.5 days of serious, scientific, democratic and highly responsible work, the entire programme was completed and the session was a great success, said the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, in his closing speech.

He stressed that, although it was necessary to make adjustments to the agenda and content of the meeting with the inclusion of “urgent, difficult and complicated issues”, the work was concluded satisfactorily, achieving a high level of agreement and consensus among the deputies.

He noted that, on the other hand, Parliament issued its first comments on 11 bills, reviewed the additional evaluation report on the results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the execution of the state budget in 2023 and the implementation status in the first months of 2024.

The National Assembly also elected the President of the Republic and the head and vice president of the National Assembly, approved the appointments of a vice prime minister and the minister of Public Security, as well as the members of the Defense and National Security Council “with a high consensus of the delegates.”

Tranh Man also praised the responsibility shown by the organizations involved in the preparation of the contents presented to the National Assembly, and emphasized the good development of the interpellation sessions with senior government officials.

This time, the question and answer sessions focused on four key areas: natural resources and the environment; industry and trade; culture, sports and tourism; and the State Audit Office.

The seventh ordinary session of the Vietnamese Parliament began on May 20 and took place in two stages: the first ended on June 8 and the second ran from the 17th to the 29th of this month.

Among the highlights of the initial phase were the election of the presidents of the Republic, General To Lam, and of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, as well as the ratification of the appointment of Le Thanh Long as vice head of Government and Luong Tam Quang as Minister of Public Security.
