An attacker who fired a crossbow at a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade was shot dead this Saturday in what the Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dacic, described as terrorist attack against Serbia.

For its part, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident that occurred in front of its diplomatic representation in Belgrade as an “attempted terrorist attack.”
“Today there was an attempted terrorist attack in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The embassy was closed and no staff members were injured. One local police officer was injured. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated,” the ministry said in a statement.
Serbia has maintained a close relationship with Israel during its armed intervention in the Gaza Strip.
