Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado gathered thousands of supporters in Táchira state (bordering Colombia) on Friday (28.06.2024) in a mass rally in support of the candidacy of former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, one month before the presidential elections.

Machado, who began her tour of several towns in Táchira on Thursday, June 27, ended the day with a caravan of vehicles in San Cristóbal, the capital of the region, followed by a long ride aboard a truck from which she greeted the thousands of Venezuelans who lined the streets to watch her pass by.

EFE found that several streets in the city were full of people chanting slogans in favor of the former deputy, who was prevented from participating in the elections due to an administrative sanction, so it decided to support González Urrutia as the candidate of the largest anti-Chavista alliance. the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

Machado calls for an end to “Chavismo”

Although the opposition leader made several speeches during Thursday’s activities calling for an end to Chavez’s rule since 1999, Friday’s rally, which was broadcast on her social media profiles, did not include any statements.

During the slow ride of the truck, which was making its way through the crowd, Machado received a video call from González Urrutia, to whom he showed part of the hubbub, as well as the greetings and banners of the supporters.

Some of the politicians present at the event, such as former MP Juan Pablo Guanipa, said on social media that, judging by the attendance, the event “has no parallel.”

In parallel, the governor of Táchira, the Chavista Freddy Bernal, led a proselytizing act in the region in favor of President Nicolás Maduro, who will seek a third six-year term in the July elections.
