Martha Ortiz Gómez is the new director of the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá (MAMBO).

A little over a month ago, MAMBO announced Claudia Hakim’s decision to retire from her position as director of the museum, after eight years of management.

A management that he led with evident dedication and passion, achieving the growth and evolution of this iconic cultural institution in the country, since it was under his direction that the museum had a significant increase in quality in its collection, going from 5,200 to 5,422 pieces of art.

Not to mention that it was she who “consolidated the programming of its exhibitions, increased community participation through public programming and strengthened the MAMBO publishing house with various publications about the exhibitions held“, they commented in the MAMBO.

After her departure, Claudia Hakim herself noted that there were eight years of great challenges, “many joys, difficult moments, many tensions, but above all, a lot of learning, where I have verified that art and museums are an essential part of life.” . I have always thought that changes are necessary and bring positive results. I am sure that whoever succeeds me will strengthen and endure the Museum. His 60-year legacy has more future than past. “I have fulfilled our mission with a great team.”

Likewise, the museum’s Board of Directors expressed deep gratitude “for his dedication and leadership during these years. “His commitment to the promotion of modern and contemporary art in Colombia, leaving an indelible mark on the institution on its path of transformation and massification.”

A new era in the hands of Martha Ortiz Gómez
After Hakim’s resignation, a meticulous selection process was carried out by the Museum’s Board of Directors in the company of Spencer Stuart, a highly experienced recruiting company, under the direction of Fernando Aparicio and Ilonka Farkas, in which it was determined that The new director of the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá, starting in March 2024, will be Martha Ortiz Gómez.
Martha Ortiz Gómez is an industrial designer from the Universidad Javeriana, she has an MBA with an emphasis in international business (Lynn University, USA) and has two postgraduate degrees in media (Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, USA. and at the University of Navarra, Spain).

For 12 years, Ortiz worked with the Group THE COLOMBIANin which she served as director of the Innovation Lab, editorial director and, finally, executive VP editorial.
“The Board of Directors gives an enthusiastic welcome to its new director and wishes her success in leading the different challenges that MAMBO faces in the future,” the institution concluded.
