Photography and music merge in the images of José Ramón Bonjoch

Causality is, according to philosophy, the relationship between cause and effect. We can talk about that relationship between events, processes, regularity of phenomena and the production of something. A pinch of chance and another of musical taste were the seasonings that gave flavor to the “gift” that the man is enjoying. José Ramón Bonjoch from Huesca, official photographer of the tour 45th anniversary from The Rebelswhich will take you through different Spanish cities this year.

The photograph has always been part of Bonjoch’s life, “a hobby that has been enhanced by the performing arts”. Passionate about portraiture, about “showing the different facets of a person through their expression,” and about capturing with his camera what the eye is not able to appreciate with the naked eye, he has immortalized moments from different artists, including the dancer Huesca Violeta Borruel, “both in rehearsals and in a performance.”

His photographic catalog is extensivealthough he recognizes that, so far, the majority are the names “of people who are dedicated to contemporary and classical dance.”

In the opinion of José Ramón Bonjoch, “mixing photography with any artistic expression is enhancing it, and that is very interesting”and what he tries to do through the lens of his camera.

Until now he had done that from Huesca, although not only with artists local but also nationals whom he was able to meet through his work on the Aragón TV program, Rosinwhich included Rozalén, Danza Invisible, Rayden, David Otero, Rafa Sánchez de La Unión, Xoel López, Bely Basarte, María Toledo, Depedro, La Cámara Roja, Decarneyhueso and Amparanoia.

After that experience on regional television, with his name in the credits of this space, José Ramón Bonjoch has gone one step further and has started working with Carlos Segarra, leader of Los Rebeldesto which we must add other artists who join the group at festivals such as Loquillo, Ariel Rot or the saxophonist Daniel Pérez. “They are monsters of the stage who have been on stage for 40 years,” and being able to immortalize them “is very gratifying and enhances my photographic work,” backed by a track record of years “in which we have gone step by step and doing many sessions, many shows. .., in the end we have built a path.”

He accompanies Carlos Segarra, and as a result of that tour of Spain an album will be released, “a photographic and videographic trunk of everything that the tour is going to be.” The dressing roomshe backstagehe scenery or the pitJose Ramon Bonjoch becomes a front-row spectator and does so accompanied by his son Paolo, who at 21 years old has inherited the hobby that his father has always cultivated. “He has a different and very fresh point of view, and in addition, he is an unquestionable support in this work because if one is on top, the other is on the bottom, if one goes inside, the other goes outside… It is a team effort,” which is enriching both of them, and which is a luxury since they are sharing time with Loquillo or Ariel Rot, and in the case of Paolo, “with his age, he doesn’t see it like we do, and he lives it in a very passionate way.” .

Now, after the experience of working together on countless occasions and even doing an exhibition, Angels or demons, in the CAI Hall of Huesca, these two views merge in a work of which something can be seen on the social networks of these musicians and singers (Instagram, Facebook…), in addition to using some of the images ” to do some advertising or market an event,” adds Bonjoch, who recognizes that personallyhim It is curious to “open the social networks of Loquillo or Ariel and see my photographs. I feel proud”.

This tour opens up “a very wide range” for this man from Huesca.because in some concerts, such as a festival scheduled in Granada, there will also be Celtas Cortos, Seguridad Social…, which allows you to meet other groups and see their work in situ.

A form of development and expression

Photography is his passion, but he has never considered it a profession because according to Bonjoch, “professionalizing something you love, in my case it doesn’t make sense. The economic issue has never been a priority, on the contrary, photography is something innate, a way of developing and expressing myself that offers me more than what I give it, even though I dedicate many hours to it.”

Nowadays, when social networks flood us with images, José Ramón Bonjoch considers that “To be a good photographer you not only have to have a good foundation and take good photos, you need to connect personally with the artist or the groupto have something that permeates you, that catches your attention, in addition to handling yourself well on stage.”

With all those condiments the best dish is made. He doesn’t slow cook it, he shoots with his camera quickly, but he studies every detail before doing so. José Ramón Bonjoch enjoys what he does and has passed it on to his son Paolo, who lives photography if not with devotion but with passion. More than three decades separate them, but they are united by the camera and what they capture through it.

They are living a dream, an “unimaginable” experience., in which they are sharing moments from the daily lives of big names on the music scene. From when the sound checks begin at 11:00 a.m. until the concert begins at 11:00 p.m., “there are many photos and many hours of computer and editing, which lead you to focus on photography in a different way and live this experience naturally” which, on the other hand, surprises those who tell it to them or with whom they share it.

Professionals on and off stage, José Ramón and Paolo Bonjoch admire these artists, and they are privileged and witnesses that “there is also admiration among them, something that the camera sees,” and that they collect. “These are moments to live and enjoy, but with your feet on the ground.. When things are done for pleasure, with taste and you have a certain devotion to photography, everything turns out differently.”
