Description submitted by the project team. Ideas do not arise by chance.
This project, a studio house for a couple of artists, is based on an implementation: locating the construction in the natural clearings of the regenerated forest land, in the municipality of Cotia, the urban limit of the city of São Paulo.

A flat, single-story construction was chosen, which facilitates the interaction of people and the transportation of pieces and materials for the works of art. The light topography would leave the house elevated in some points, in a mix of standing on the ground and aerial views of the vegetation. Thin and tall trees.

The aligned natural clearings allowed a unique volume following this organic path. But in the case of this house, organic straight: 4 aligned and slightly rotated rectangular volumes joined only by the floor, creating a sequence of full and empty spaces. In the cuts of this large parallelepiped, the glass closures highlight the idea of solidity and lightness. Light brute.

A train.
A train passes nearby, which cannot be seen but can be heard by its whistle.

Thus, a structure was defined: concrete support bases, transverse to the volumes, as if sprouting from the ground, and above them two 30cm metal beams that make up the entire route of approximately 50m. A road that receives concrete panel slabs. The slab alone manages to overcome the lateral balances of the volume to highlight the idea of ”floating”. Structural walls of 20 cm wide concrete blocks with hardware and grouts that help the negative stress of the roof slab.

Internally, the blocks, the cover slab and the high-resistance concrete floor were left visible. The few coverage points were made with hydraulic tiles of different colors: floors that mark the axes of rotation of the volumes with pink tiles, and bathrooms and laundry rooms with blue and green. On the outside, the boxes received a dark rubbery paint that binds the black frames together. A large volume that is present in the forest, but that does not take away its shine.

Nature maintains the thermal balance of the house: it ensures fresh air flowing freely through the straight 4 m high volumes in the warmer seasons, and the glazed parts receive special sunlight in the cold seasons and can store their heat . Thermal inertia guaranteed by the solidity of the volume. The loose soil house prevents contact with groundwater and allows life to pass underneath. Free.
