Much of the art collected by Ramón de la Sota y Llano was seized during the Civil War and later recovered. However, there are still treasures to be recovered, as demonstrated by the recent return of paintings from recent years and the efforts still being made to locate the works that are still missing.

Among the latest restitutions shown in the museum directed by Miguel Zugaza, are the aforementioned RPortrait of a young gentleman of Von the Voort or that of Maria Cristina de Bourbon de Dela Cruz and Rios. To them is added that of Martín Zapater painted by Francisco de Goya.

As a link between the avant-garde and classicism of the De la Sota collection, it has been decided to exhibit, thanks to the loan from the Prado Museum, The Flight of the Witches by Goya, one of those pieces in which the master – hinge between ancient and modern – criticizes the society of the moment while giving free rein to his peculiar creative universe of nightmares and daydreams.

This journey through the life of Ramón de la Sota y Llano through the selection of more than 60 workscurated by the Conservation and Research coordinator of the Bilbao museum, Javier Novo, It can be visited until October 13 and has been sponsored by the BBK Banking Foundation.
