School supplies and books account for more than half of income deductions

As the new Income Tax campaign begins next Wednesday, April 3, many citizens begin to do the math so that the tax return will be returned to them and look for the greatest savings possible. In this sense, more than half of the total amount applied in regional deductions in personal income tax among taxpayers in the Region of Murcia corresponds to the school expenses section, which year after year is the heading that people most benefit from. to reduce tax pressure. This is confirmed by the data on this tax from the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT), extracted by the union of technicians of the Ministry of Finance (Gestha).

Of the total autonomous deductions applied in the Community, based on the latest data published for the 2021 financial year, which reached 55,920 taxpayers, 31,133 were applied to alleviate family school costs in terms of the aforementioned expenses for materials and textbooks. In this way, the joint amount deducted in this area rises above 4.5 million euros, out of a global saving for the pockets of Murcians of 9 million between all deductions. These figures leave an average tax reduction in this section of 146 euros. It must be taken into account that in this case 20% of the disbursement is covered, up to a maximum of 120 euros per child.

Likewise, the deduction for daycare expenses is another of the aids with the greatest prominence at the regional level, with a volume of 5,953 for a saving of over 1.1 million euros. This reflects a higher average of 193 euros, which is also above the average value for the set of declarations with deductions, which was 162 euros.

Although ahead in terms of the numbers of beneficiaries and amount saved is that of taxpayers with disabilities, to which 13,911 people benefited in that year, with a financial amount of more than 1.4 million euros. Of course, the average profit value in this case is lower, 103 euros.

An amount that clearly falls below the limit set to deduct 120 euros per year. On the other hand, the requirements to qualify establish a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, as well as that the sum of the general tax base and the savings in the declaration be 19,000 euros in the individual modality and 24,000 euros in the individual modality. the joint.

Within a lower step of the most used regional deductions, those for adoption or birth of a child stand out, which account for 2,865, although with a modest average savings of 96 euros, based on the global amount of 273,250 euros; and for donations for the protection of cultural heritage or promotion of cultural activities, which marked an average tax reduction of 274 euros for 2,368 taxpayers, compared to an amount of 649,263 euros.

Although the ways to deduct items are growing, the volume of people who take refuge increases at a still low rate

Another notable aspect is that the regional deductions in personal income tax have been increasing progressively over the years, since from the 13 recorded for example in 2020 and 2021, it rose to 15 in 2022 with the incorporation of those for renting a habitual residence and those for working women caring for children and dependent people. While for the 2023 campaign the regional government has implemented another pair, reaching 17: one for large families in the event of the acquisition or expansion of their habitual residence, and another for donations of goods registered in the inventory of the Community’s cultural heritage. .

However, although the volume of beneficiaries of the deductions increases each year, depending on the greater availability of options, its effective increase is still small, since the 8.1% registered over the almost 695,000 taxpayers in the Community in 2021 is just three tenths higher than the 7.8% achieved in 2020.

Tax pressure

“There is improvement, but there are deductions that reach very few people,” the general secretary of Gestha, José María Mollinedo, emphasizes to LA VERDAD. And there is a lack of greater knowledge of those social measures that are intended to alleviate the tax pressure on people with medium and low incomes. A clear example in this regard is the deduction for conciliation – which covers 20% of the contributions paid in the special system for domestic employees – which was used by only 67 people. And the same occurs with unpaid care for those over 65 years of age and people with disabilities, with only 33.

The Treasury data show that the highest percentage of filers with deductions occurs in the income range between 12,000-20,000 euros, where it represents 22%, followed by 21,000-30,000 where they reach 10.9%.

Only 33 taxpayers took advantage of the deductions for unpaid care of the elderly

Six hundred citizens with high incomes benefit from some of the reliefs

The detailed analysis of the statistics of regional personal income tax deductions in the Region of Murcia reveals how citizens with very high incomes look for ways to reduce their tax bill. In fact, more than 600 taxpayers with income brackets above 60,000 euros took advantage of some of the established reliefs. And although in reality they only represent 3.2% of the 694,035 income taxpayers in the Community, according to the final data for 2021, it is significant that they do not give up applying some type of the deductions offered, and that they are not subject to a income limit. As occurs in cases of donations for the protection of cultural heritage, by investment in shares or social participations in new entities, as well as in renewable energy installations and in domestic water-saving equipment.

Specifically, a total of 31 Murcian taxpayers with income above 601,000 euros then deducted a global amount of 6,671 euros, which represents an average of 215 euros; while another 56 people in the income tax bracket between 150,000-601,000 euros managed to deduct 19,681 euros, with an average of 351 euros – the highest value of the group of filers. And, finally, up to 554 citizens with high purchasing power, with incomes between 60,000-150,000 euros, saved 159,546 euros, with an average of 288 euros.

Almost a thousand beneficiaries for supporting the biohealth sector

Nearly a thousand people from Murcia benefit in their income tax return for giving donations to biohealth research, as reflected in the details of regional personal income tax deductions in 2021. This is more than fifty more than those who did so. in the previous year. However, the average amount of savings is minimal, since it barely reaches 88 euros. Likewise, it is very small when investing in shares and participations in entities listed on the Alternative Stock Market (MAB), which affect 20% of the investment with a maximum of 10,000 euros per year.
