Dr. Jeffrey Gold was approved as the new president of the University of Nebraska at Friday’s Board of Regents meeting.

Gold is currently the chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He’ll take over as the university’s ninth president on July 1st.

The board approved him on a 7-1 vote. Regent Kathy Wilmot was the only regent to vote no.

The NU Board of Regents announced Gold as priority candidate in mid-March. The national search for a new president began after Ted Carter said he was leaving the position last August.

Gold plans to prioritize listening to Nebraskans during his time as president.

“My plans are to listen carefully, to sit with our students, our faculty and staff sit with our farmers and ranchers, sit with our student-athletes, as well,” Gold said. “But more importantly, to meet with the Nebraskans where they are, to meet them where they are and to listen to them carefully.

Gold will serve a five-year term through June 30, 2029. Gold will receive a base salary of $1,062,573. He is eligible for an additional $159,386 performance-based merit pay.
