“Read live”, the fun app that ticmas developed to accompany children’s literacy process

In the first of the two days dedicated to Literacy and the problem of reading comprehension, Ticmas presented the application for mobile devices that promises to change the way readers are formed. Let’s read live! is a game that invites boys and girls to train as streamers. This communicative environment known to the little ones is the starting point for them to immerse themselves in the proposal.

The Ticmas booth has a streamer room with microphones, headphones and cameras, ready to sit and read. Upon entering the game, the participant finds a menu of varied topics from which they will choose the one that is of interest to them to participate in the transmission. And there the game begins.

When children are invited to read for others, the challenge is not simply to read but to communicate. At the streamers’ table, the kids read aloud, gesture, make significant movements with their hands, and try to transmit clearly to that “audience” that listens to them. That is why This activity is deeply enriching.: connects the reader with a simulated but concrete communicative situation.

Like all broadcasts in digital environments, the simulation contains a chat where “followers” ask questions. This audience that is present but not seen helps the shyest to lose their inhibitions and encourages the practice of reading and the development of fluency. At the same time, these questions in the chat about the different readings allow the child to reflect on what she has read and exercise her understanding. Each participant has the possibility of taking the tours at their own pace, going back if they consider that they have not understood, listening to the audios with her participation, which favors their fluency and the development of their reading and comprehension skills.

Time in the classroom prevents the teacher from personally accompanying each child with the intensity and frequency required. In these cases, technology is a great ally, which guides the student’s work and offers metrics to the teacher that allow them to understand what type of interventions or activities they can propose to accompany, support, and guide their students in their training as readers.

A virtual reality module at the Ticmas stand at the Book Fair

Every day, at the Ticmas stand, boys and girls between 7 and 13 years old come to experience this proposal, accompanied by parents, grandparents, and teachers. We are waiting for you all to play, have fun and learn in the streaming space of Let’s read live!
