Rubén Abella from Valladolid will present his work ‘Dice la sangre’ in León on Friday, May 24, in an event that will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Library located on Santa Nonia Street. The plot of the book takes place in Astorga (in the novel it is called Tabira) where the author, who will be accompanied in the presentation by the journalist Magín Revillo, has ancestry.

‘Dice la sangre’ is a polyphonic novel made of crossed memories whose ultimate objective is to discover what happened within a family during the months of July and August 1985. At the center of the narrative is Pilar, who has terminal cancer. and, since she does not want to die in Madrid, she has asked to be taken to her hometown, Tabira. She spends her days in bed, at the mercy of the illness, gazing lost at the hop fields that can be seen through the window.

The story is told, among others, by her mother, her husband, the nurse who cares for her, her children Tesa and Ariel, his girlfriend, a young love, a man with an intellectual disability, a lonely sheep herder, a slaughterer. who they call Cuco whose gang, that summer, is at odds with Ariel’s. Her testimonies weave a complex tapestry, a kind of choral symphony of memory that shows as much as it hides, where it is not always easy to discern the truth.
