One man’s plan for a business in San Francisco? Banned books and naked booksellers

In the midst of a retail crisis in San Francisco, a man has a business idea that he thinks could be very profitable: selling banned books featuring naked bodies.

This is what George Davis, a self-proclaimed “body freedom” activist, said. Posted on Craigslist is looking for a “fit and ambitious” CEO to run its strip mall boutique, Union Square, from August to December. The advertisement was first published by a Bay Area Blog.

Why does Davis think the CEO should be a woman?

“It’s just that I’ve been doing it for a long time. Because it will work. I understand that it is not right to need a vulva instead of a penis, but it will work,” he said in an interview on Thursday.

As for booksellers, they should be gender balanced.

“Booksellers must have a sexual balance, one man for one woman, to eliminate sexuality. “All the bookstores will be Hooters with the books,” he told The Times.

True to his original concept, his bookstore only employed naked booksellers and only sold banned books. Davis believes the store will primarily cater to the LGBTQ+ community, attracting a crowd that wants to ogle and (he hopes) shop.

“International tourists and provincial Americans want to come. We will have tons of announcements. . . . If this space generates good income, this project can be quickly and easily replicated in Chicago, New York and London,” he said in the announcement.

Davis, 80, has been flaunting her figure in San Francisco for decades. He ran twice for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and once for mayor (he got 0.45% of the vote, losing to Gavin Newsom) and was arrested in 2014 for violating the city’s new anti-nudity ordinance. . In the ad she called herself a “mini-celebrity.”

“The Banned Bookstore would have banned titles both in the United States and internationally. The booksellers would remain dressed to demonstrate that the human body and all parts of the body are normal and natural,” Davis wrote in his speech.

He added that the owner of the Union Square site – “think Nordstrom” – has given the green light to the birthday suit concept.

But on Thursday, Davis said the owner reneged on the deal. Now he is looking for another 20,000 square meters of book space.

“Our natural markets, underserved, underserved or who want to be served by us, are Burning Man, leather, BDSM, fetish and LGBT+ related businesses with high quality products, crafts and art. Maybe a fun space. Think Burning Man Theme Camp Remember, a million people went to SF Pride Week, 300,000 people went to Burning Man. It’s our natural market and scene,” Davis wrote.

Here is the ad if you want to get to it.
