In 1954 the Presidency of Colombia was occupied by Lieutenant Colonel Gustavo Rojas Pinilla who a few years before, as a military attaché in Germany, fell in love with the technological advance called television, which is why he accepted and supported Fernando Gómez Agudelo’s initiative to implement it in Colombia.

Gómez Agudelo’s audacity led him to simultaneously carry out the first remote, which caused high levels of stress. The television studios were in the basement of the National Library (Calle 24 between Carreras 5 and 7) while President Rojas Pinilla would broadcast his message from the Palace of San Carlos (Calle 10 between Carreras 5 and 6), an enormous distance for his time.

Prior to the inauguration there were many rehearsals to refine the moments, which turned out better than planned. Cuban technicians advised their Colombian counterparts.
