He Pope Francis revealed This Wednesday he has on his nightstand an edition of the New Testament Book of Psalms that belonged to a Ukrainian soldier who died on the front lines in the war after the Russian invasion.

“I have on my bedside table the Book of Psalms from the New Testament of a dead Ukrainian soldier who was sent to me and he prayed at the front with this book,” he explained during the catechesis he gave at the general audience held in St. Peter’s Square. .

During another audience, Francisco had already spoken and shown this book, as well as the rosary that belonged to a soldier named Oleksandrwho died in Avdijevka when he was only 23 years old.

The book and the rosary were given to Pope Francis by the Argentine nun who lives in Spain Sister Lucia Caram.

During this Wednesday’s audience, Pope Francis once again asked for prayers to achieve peace: “War is a defeat from the beginning. Let us pray for peace in the martyred Ukraine, in the Holy Land, in Sudan, in Myanmar and where people suffer from war. Let us pray every day for peace,” he urged.
