In order to continue strengthening the Expanded Immunization Plan, PAI, and increase coverage, the Departmental Health Secretariat, together with the Ministry of Health and the Mayor’s Office of Montería, held a training day on pneumococcal vaccination at the facilities of the Hospital San Jerónimo de Montería.
This event was aimed at the coordinators and vaccinators of the 30 municipalities of the department, who received detailed information about diseases such as pneumonia and meningitis, which are preventable if vaccines are applied to children under 5 years of age.
Irlena Bolemo Garrido, PAI representative of the Government of Córdoba, emphasized that this event seeks to motivate the community to keep their vaccination schedules up to date and, if they do not have them, to go to their nearest healthcare centers.
“We want to ensure that the municipalities of the department take strict care of this issue. This is what this event is for, where coordinators and vaccinators receive essential information. If symptoms appear, the staff will know how to act and also verify the vaccination schedule of each patient,” added the official.
For his part, Omar Escobar, an epidemiologist with a master’s degree and doctorate in epidemiology and biostatistics, who gave the talk, said that it is vitally important to get vaccinated against pneumococcus, mainly, since it is one of the leading causes of mortality in children. 5 years in the country.
These vaccines are free for minors because they are included in Colombia’s expanded immunization plan.
The Government of Córdoba, through the Departmental Health Secretariat, urges the community to follow medical recommendations, avoid self-medication and assist the corresponding entities to keep their vaccination schedules up to date.
