A court of thorns and roses weaves a compelling story, but The timeline of Sarah J. Maas’ fantasy series remains baffling, even after five books.. The first three ACOTAR The books cover the same conflict, while the Frost Court and Starlight short novel and A court of silver flames expand the world of Maas. A lot happens over the course of five books, both on a personal level for the characters and on a larger scale. Feyre Archeron has come a long way since the beginning of A court of roses and thorns, when she is presented as an ordinary hunter trying to keep her family alive.

Feyre’s arrival in Prythian also changes the world of the High Fae, and the continent faces many changes and challenges in what seems like a short period of time. The Prythian conflicts take center stage in A court of roses and thorns, but it’s hard to say whether they unfold in a credible succession. Maas doesn’t paint the clearest picture of the series’ timeline, making it one of the more puzzling elements of ACOTAR – and doing the math only makes it even more so.

The chronology of A Court of Thorns and Roses is confusing

Readers should look closely at Sarah J. Maas’s books to determine how much time has passed

the timeline of A court of roses and thorns It’s not explicitly described in Maas’s books, but the series seems to take place over a few years. Certain events, such as the winter solstice, can be used to deduce how much time passes between each book. And readers know that Feyre is 19 when ACOTAR opens and is several years old when she and Rhysand start a family in A court of silver flames. However, the time frame remains unclear throughout the Court of Thorns and Roses books.

Readers can determine the time frame of the first three books by looking at the seasons in which they begin and end. ACOTAR It begins in the winter and ends in the fall (via Fandom.com), meaning that Feyre’s initial stay at Spring Court and her journey Under the Mountain will occur in less than a year. ACOMAF It begins during the winter solstice and ends in the spring, an incredibly short period of time given everything that’s going on. AND A court of wings and ruin has the most baffling timeline everas it unfolds in just a few months, despite facing a full-blown war.

A Court of Frost and Starlight sees Feyre turn 21, confirming that Only about two years pass during the original period. ACOTAR trilogy. Since the novel deals with the aftermath of the war, it seems that it is a few months away. ACOWAR. AND A court of silver flames is set about a year later. Those details are not immediately clear. And even after carefully reconstructing the books’ timeline, it’s obvious that it doesn’t make much sense. In fact, it seems rushed for such a long fantasy series.

Even those willing to break down the approximate timeline of A court of thorns and roses I have to admit it doesn’t make much sense. The fact that the first three installments take place in about two years is enough to give any reader whiplash. It’s hard to believe that Feyre was able to go through so much in such a short time. And that’s not even the weirdest part of the time period. ACOMAF is based on the war between the King of Hybern and Prythian, but it doesn’t really go until ACOWAR – and then it ends almost as soon as it begins.

Even those willing to break down the approximate timeline of
A court of thorns and roses
I have to admit it doesn’t make much sense.

It doesn’t seem realistic for a war to conclude so quickly, but it’s especially strange given that most of Prythian’s leaders and combatants are immortal. Time passes differently for them and they probably wouldn’t rush to confront a threat to their kingdoms. Of course, the schedule is not only politically unstable. Feyre’s relationships also quickly fall apart and his life choices change drastically from one moment to the next, and very little time passes to justify such events. In general, he ACOTAR Books suffer from the speed at which they are developed.. The moment makes little sense and adds to the confusion.

The ACOTAR books should have extended their main conflicts for much longer

The personal and political plots of the story would have benefited

If there is anything that could have helped A court of thorns and roses’ timeline, is prolonging the books’ conflicts for a longer period of time. Maas would have needed to set each novel over a longer period for this to work. – Either that, or lengthen the series by adding installments. But expanding the series’ timeline would make sense of the main conflicts, allowing them to feel more developed and believable. Feyre’s transitions from one book to the next would definitely seem more realistic if Maas had allowed a few more years to pass during and between the two. ACOTAR aftermath.

However, Prythian politics and conflicts would also feel more natural with an extended timeline. A court of wings and ruin could have benefited from more battle scenes before closing out their war. The lead-up to the conflict with Hybern feels more gripping than the actual climax, and simply changing the timeline wouldn’t fix this. However, it would allow readers to fill in the blanks, suggesting that more happened behind the scenes. Unfortunately, A court of roses and thorns‘The current timeline does not leave the door open to such speculation. Rather, it confirms how incredible the trajectory of the story is.
