Two books and two jars of powdered isotonic drinks were the mechanisms used to try to hide about 2 kilos of ecstasy in a parcel coming from Belgium and destined for Santiago.

The team from the Drug Subdepartment of Metropolitan Customs applied risk profiles and selected a parcel with the specified route for physical inspection. In it he found various items, such as solar lights, a lamp, chocolates, two books and 2 jars with powder for preparing isotonic drinks.

It was these last two elements that alerted the official who was carrying out the procedure. When they examined the books in detail, they found that, inside, instead of sheets of paper, there were 18 packages wrapped in aluminum foil. For their part, the bottles of powder for isotonic drinks also concealed plastic bags. When they opened all the packages they found an ocher-colored granulated substance. The use of non-invasive technology determined that it was MDMA or ecstasy, with a total weight of 1,942 grams.

The Director of the Metropolitan Customs, Rodrigo Díazindicated that, following instructions from the Western Prosecutor’s Office, the box, the synthetic drug and all the elements found inside the shipment were made available to the Investigative Police to continue with the necessary procedures. This discovery adds to other striking concealment methods found in recent weeks, such as cocaine hidden in copper ornaments or ayahuasca that simulated being an energy drink.
