The National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced this Wednesday that in April 2024, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a monthly variation of 0.5%.

So far this year, the Index accumulates 2.2% rising and 4.0% in twelve months with respect to the spliced ​​series.

“Eight of the thirteen divisions that make up the CPI basket contributed positive impacts on the monthly variation of the index, three presented negative impacts and two registered no impact,” noted the INE.

Prices

According to the INE, among the divisions with increases in their prices, the increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.7%) with 0.154 percentage points (pp.); and transportation (1.1%), with 0.148pp.

The remaining divisions contributed, together, 0.298pp.

On the other hand, among the divisions that recorded monthly decreases in their prices, it stood out clothing and footwear (-1.9%), with an incidence of -0.052pp.

Products

-Gasoline: In April it presented a monthly increase of 3.4%, contributing 0.116pp. to the variation of the general indicator. It accumulated 5.2% in the fourth month of the year.

-New cars: It recorded a monthly increase of 1.6%, with an incidence of 0.055pp., and a variation of 2.8% so far in 2024.

-Bread: It registered a monthly increase of 2.2%, with 0.048pp., accumulating 4.0% so far this year.

-Rent: It recorded a growth of 0.5%, with 0.040pp., accumulating 3.3% in 2024.

-International air transport: It reported a monthly decrease of 7.0%, with an incidence of -0.040pp., registering a variation of -23.8% so far this year.

-Cookies: It registered a monthly decrease of 4.4%, with -0.020pp., accumulating -3.1% so far in 2024.

Salaries rose

Yesterday, Tuesday, another report from the INE reflected that, Given the containment of inflation, salaries in Chile once again showed recoveries.

In detail, in March the Nominal Remuneration Indices (IR) and the Labor Cost Indices (ICMO) registered a twelve-month increase of 6.3% and 5.9%, respectively.

By economic sector, Commerce, Construction and Manufacturing Industry recorded the highest positive annual incidences in both indicators.

The Real Remuneration Index – which measures the evolution of remunerations adjusted by the monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – grew 2.4% in twelve months, accumulating a variation of 0.2% so far this year.
