GDELS, parent company of the Spanish Santa Bárbara Sistemas, suffers a cyber attack by Russian hackers

The Russian hacker group NoName has launched a cyber attack against the company GDELS (General Dynamics European Land Systems)with headquarters in Spain, parent company Santa Barbara Systemsa firm that works on the development of combat tanks Leopard 2A4 for Ukraine.

The attack has only affected the website, which has been down for two days – it is now available today – and has consisted of a denial of service (DDos). “We sent our DDoS missiles against websites of Russophobic Spain,” NoName announces on its Telegram channel.

The National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) from Spain had warned in recent days about the possibility of this type of incident occurring, which seeks to collapse web pages by multiplying thousands of requests to their servers.

Company sources explain that the attempted cyberattack was detected immediately and did not compromise any of the company’s systems. GDELS also highlights that, like most major companies in the European defense industry, it is frequently “targeted” by cybercriminals.

“Following response protocols for this type of incident, GDELS decided to temporarily disconnect the company’s website until the ongoing investigation is concluded,” the military vehicle manufacturer points out. The company further notes that GDELS’ cybersecurity precautions have been effective and the company’s confidential data remains well protected.

GDELS also highlights that it will remain vigilant and is fully dedicated to ensuring maximum protection against any type of cybercrime. The attack is already being investigated by the National Intelligence Center (CNI), collects ABC.

Leopard car repair

European defense companies are in the crosshairs of Russian hackers. In Spain, GDELS-SBS has been working on the repair of battle tanks since the middle of last year Leopard 2A4 for Ukraine.

The company is currently repairing a batch of 19 Leopard cars for Ukraine at its Alcalá de Guadaíra plant in Seville. Last year, the company already prepared a first batch of ten in these same facilities.
