This is the level of the reservoirs in Colombia today, Thursday, June 6, 2024

The rains of recent weeks have been a relief for the country’s reservoirs, especially in Cundinamarca, affected by the drought caused at the beginning of the year by the El Niño phenomenon. The rainfall that occurred has contributed to improving the generation of electrical energy due to a slight recovery in the levels of the reservoirs, although they have not yet reached the desired minimums.

According to the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR), Most of the reservoirs in the department have experienced increases in their levels, although they are still below their ideal capacity.

Reservoir level

The Corporation’s technical report indicates that the reservoirs are like this:

  • Neusa: 80.25%, with stable trend (0.000).

With this increase, the average of the reservoirs stands at 46.73%, gradually moving away from the critical level established by the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (Creg) at 27%.

The system contributions were 119.94% per day and, on average, 111.07%. The centrally dispatched thermal generation was 37.7 GWh.

Levels of the Chingaza System

Bogotá is in the seventh cycle of water rationing, given the low level of the Chingaza System reservoirs, which supply 70% of the liquid to the capital.

According to the report from the city’s Mayor’s Office, Chingaza’s levels reach 33.80%, while the CAR reports that they reach 34.08%. Although the difference is minimal, the good news is that the system continues to increase levels.

To now reach 70% capacity, the Bogotá mayor’s office decided to extend the water restriction in shifts. The District confirmed that the sequence of restrictions will be maintained as it was being carried out and that rationing in the capital will continue until next October. This was confirmed by the manager of the Aqueduct and Sewer Company, Natasha Avendaño, and the mayor of the city, Carlos Fernando Galán.
