President Bernardo Arévalo: “Confidence in the Guatemalan economy is growing”

Guatemala City, June 7 (AGN).- President Bernardo Arévalo highlighted this Friday that confidence in the Guatemalan economy is growing. This according to the economic activity confidence index (ICAE).

Through his official networks, the president issued a message:

The commitment of this government to the recovery of institutions is reflected in the economic activity confidence index (ICAE) of Banguat. Guatemala rose from 57.80 points (in January) to 72.35 points (in May), reflecting four consecutive months in the economic expansion zone.

He highlighted that this shows that, with effective management and joint work, Guatemala can achieve a prosperous economic future for all.

The statistics

The Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) published the results of the ICAE, highlighting that in May it stood at 72.35 points.

This report details:

The level of the confidence index of economic activity stood at 72.35 points, higher than 44.70 percent compared to May of last year, when the indicator stood at 50 points.

The above is derived from the survey of the panel of private analysts consulted by Banguat, whose purpose is to measure the perception of the current economic situation and the business environment.

Compared to April, the measurement also improved by 2.95 percent, the Central Bank reported. Since January, this measurement model has been increasing compared to 2023.

Fourth consecutive month

Confidence in the Guatemalan economy, measured by the ICAE, which is calculated by the Bank of Guatemala, has rebounded since January 2024, the month in which it reached 57.80 points, reaching 72.35 points in May.

May is the fourth consecutive month in which the index is above 70 points, remaining in the zone of economic expansion (that is, above 50 points).

The main factors that are inducing this behavior are an improvement in the respondents’ perspectives that the current evolution of the country’s economic activity is adequate. As well as the expectation that this will continue to be favorable in a short-term horizon.

The survey was carried out between the second and fourth weeks of May, the bank said. This was presented to columnists, journalists and representatives of research centers and universities.
