How did this initiative to open a gallery come about in such a difficult time in Yerba Buena?

– Serna is an art gallery whose mission is the creation of a new space for the dissemination and marketing of works of contemporary art, which originates from this province towards northern Argentina. It seeks to disseminate local artistic production. In the difficult situation that we are going through as a society, we decided to bet on this project with the spirit of generating a dynamic that drives artistic creation and production, for which we want to be identified and recognized. We work professionally, with transparent and sincere relationships with artists, gallery owners, curators, editors, cultural managers and institutions, based on mutual respect and commitment.

In some way it will integrate the gallery circuit with Radar and El Taller. How do you see that issue?

– We consider that our project will nourish the gallery circuit of Yerba Buena and Tucumán, seeking to build community and project ourselves with close relationships like the ones we have been working with all of them, to value and expand the art market at a local and regional level. . It is also our desire to be able to reach collaboration agreements with institutions such as the Faculty of Arts, museums and galleries, and support the training and growth of local artists and give opportunities to new generations.

Why did you decide to bet on contemporary art?

– I would say that he challenges us generationally, his works dialogue with us and because we understand that artists and their trajectories are very important in local, national and even international art. We use, as a work methodology, an investigation, a cross-section of data: CVs, statements, awards, residences, salons, collections and as a result, we make a mapping.

Data: a mapping of active artists

According to a survey carried out by the Serna gallery, in a first cut of the actors in the visual arts scene, more than 50 contemporary artists based in the province appear, born between the 70s and 90s and very active currently. In the official press release, Serna presents itself as a traveling gallery, “that moves and proposes tours inhabiting different formats, aiming to provoke astonishment and reunion.” “It seeks to unite artists from different generations and trajectories,” he announces. Most of the participants in this first exhibition are graduates of the UNT Faculty of Arts, with sculptures, drawings and paintings that dialogue with design and other proposals.
