Student representatives from various public universities in the Caribbean have raised an alert regarding the delays in payments of the ‘Renta Joven’ subsidy program by Social Prosperity.

This program, designed to support low-income university students, has faced serious difficulties in its execution, affecting numerous students who depend on these subsidies to continue their studies.

They do not pay in Young Income

The subsidy of 400 thousand pesos per month, although it is not a sum that will enrich anyone, represents significant help for the support of many young people who struggle to obtain a university degree amid economic limitations.

However, the lack of compliance with payments has generated growing discontent among the student community.

«More than six months have passed and the government has not made a single Youth Income payment. At this point, they owe 2023-2 permanence, 2024-1 Tuition and they should already be paying 2024-1 permanence. Gustavo Bolívar, what happened? It was great to manage Social Prosperity and Income«said an affected student, evidencing the frustration and helplessness that many of his classmates feel.

Student representatives have made an urgent call to the competent authorities to regularize payments and guarantee the continuity of the program.

“These delays not only affect the economic stability of students, but also put their permanence in higher education at risk,” they commented in a statement.

Social Prosperity, for its part, has not yet issued an official response to the students’ complaints. The director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar, has not expressed himself either.

The government continues to fail to comply with this population, however, the educational community hopes that the government will take immediate measures to resolve this situation and ensure the well-being of the program’s beneficiaries.

The effective implementation of the ‘Renta Joven’ program is crucial to promoting equity and access to education in Colombia.

The authorities must prioritize the resolution of these problems to prevent more students from being forced to abandon their studies due to lack of resources.
