Mexico City, June 14 (EFECOM).- The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) fell 0.1% this Friday in its main indicator, standing at 52,222.94 units, ending with an accumulated weekly loss of 1. 42% and link its fifth week closing in red.

After the election on June 2, the BMV accumulates -5.36%, a period in which the exchange rate has touched 19 pesos per dollar and in which the markets have shown nervousness about the reform of the Judicial Branch that could be approved in September by an official majority in the Mexican Congress.

In Mexico, the Price and Quotation Index (CPI), the main indicator of the BMV, “fell 1.42% in the week, tying 5 consecutive weeks of losses,” the director of Economic and Financial Analysis of the Bank told EFE. Base, Gabriela Siller.

He specified that “so far in June it has accumulated a drop of 5.36%”, while “at closing, the CPI was 11.52% below the historical maximum of February 7 of this year”, when it reached the 58,711.87 units.

For his part, the director of Economic Analysis at the financial group Actinver, Enrique Covarrubias, explained: “the CPI detached itself from the weekly dynamics of its peers in the United States by falling -1.43%. With this movement, the loss accumulated so far in 2024 was -9%”.

On the day, the peso appreciated 0.05% against the dollar, trading at 18.46 units per greenback, after trading at 18.47 at the close of the previous day, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.

During the week, “the peso closed with a depreciation of 0.35% or 6.5 cents, trading around 18.46 pesos per dollar. The exchange rate hit a minimum of 18.21 and a maximum of 18.99 pesos per dollar, not seen since March 20, 2023,” Siller said.

The IPC closed the session at 52,222.94 units, with a loss of 52.71 points and a negative variation of 0.1% compared to the previous day.

The volume traded in the market reached 300 million securities for an amount of 17,225 million pesos (about 870 million euros).

Of the 557 firms that traded on the day, 202 ended with their prices rising, 329 had losses and 26 closed unchanged.

The securities with the greatest upward variation were those of the maritime transport company Grupo TMM (TMM A), with 8.64%; of Grupo Financiero Banorte (GFNORTE O), with 3.58%, and of the construction materials company Corporación Moctezuma (CMOCTEZ), with 2.5%.

In contrast, the greatest downward variations were from the Mexican Restaurant Corporation (CMR B), with -9.09%; from the chemical products marketer Grupo Pochteca (POCHTEC B), with -6.83%, and from the tequila producer José Cuervo (Cuervo), with -4.14%.

During the day, three of the four sectors fell, the frequent consumer sector (-0.61%), the industrial sector (-0.43%) and the materials sector (-0.33%), and one advanced, the financial (-0.63%). EFECOM
