American Airlines today celebrated its inaugural flight to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), becoming the only U.S. airline to operate between JFK and HND.

The joint venture between American and Japan Airlines now offers customers up to three daily flights between JFK and HND, with the opportunity to connect to more than 30 cities in Japan and East Asia.

Together, the two airlines will offer customers up to 17 daily flights between the continental United States and Japan, including 10 daily flights to HND. The new service from JFK to HND will complement American’s current daily service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and two daily flights from Los Angeles (LAX).

“Today we are pleased to become the only U.S. airline flying between New York and Tokyo Haneda, a testament to the strong relationship we have forged with our business partner Japan Airlines,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International Operations for American Airlines. “Together we can now offer connections to over 30 cities in Japan and East Asia, opening up even more of the world for our customers to explore.”

Connection to Japan from Argentina

For Argentine customers connecting to HND, American currently offers daily service to JFK from Buenos Aires (EZE), operating on a Boeing 777-200 with seating for 272 passengers.

Between October 27, 2024, and March 29, 2025, the airline will resume seasonal service from EZE to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). Customers flying to the DFW hub will also be able to connect to HND and Tokyo Narita (NRT), with both routes being operated daily on 787-8 aircraft.
