Confirmed: Nissan will have its own compact pickup based on the Renault Niagara and it will be manufactured in Córdoba

MMore than an open secret, it was already an official preview: at the beginning of the year, Nissan presented its plan The Arc in which, among all its projects, a new compact pick-up stood out for our region but of which no details were given. more details. Finally, this week, Guy Rodriguez, President of Nissan LATAM confirmed the project to a group of journalists in Brazil.

In addition to highlighting the success that the company is having with the Kicks and the upcoming arrival of its new generation, the compact pickup has special importance since it represents the landing of the Japanese firm in this new and competitive segment and also good news for our country: although the investment announcement is still missing, it is almost a fact that it will be produced in the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba along with the successor to the Renault Oroch, a project that the rhombus brand did confirm for Argentina.

As the Japanese firm announced in its plan The Arc, it plans to launch no less than 30 new products in the next three years globally, dividing the markets into regions. For South America, although official information is little, as we noted previously, there is one project that stands out and that is precisely that of its compact pickup truck, which will be born from the hand of Renault. The company, through the Renault-Nissan alliance, had already anticipated a few years ago that it was going to follow a follow-the-leader strategy, that is, that they will share many platforms and components and, based on one vehicle, develop another/others. for each brand. As an example, based on the Nissan Frontier, there will be derivatives of Renault (Alaskan) and Mitsubishi (L200). That is what will happen with the compact pickup, which will be an alternative to the successor to the Oroch.

The Renault Niagara, which was presented as a concept last year, anticipates a truck with hybrid mechanics that will replace the current Oroch. This product will debut the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) platform in our country and is the same one that debuted in the Kardian, in turn, derived from the CMF-B architecture. Being more modern than the B0 platform of the Duster/Oroch, it is suitable for all types of propulsion systems, whether with internal combustion engines and/or hybrid electrification systems, and allows the incorporation of advanced driving assistance systems.

Renault Niagara ConceptIts unveiling will take a little longer, as it is expected to be unveiled between 2025 and 2026. At the moment, Renault only has a sketch, although investment announcements and more details may arrive in the coming months.
